What is a Great Gathering?
It's gathering great people together at an event hosted by a member or members of the LNFI community as a way to meet new people and have some fun! These events encourage families to connect and get to know each other better, which in turn helps us form an even stronger school community.
We need your participation! Please consider hosting a Great Gathering during the coming year. Not sure you're interested in hosting just yet? Consider attending one or two Great Gatherings being offered this year and see how much fun they are...then mark it on your calendar to host for next year.
Events can be for kids only, adults only, or families, with groups as small or as large as you want! Gatherings can be simple or extravagant. Host your own event or combine with other families and friends of LNFI. The expenses incurred by Great Gatherings need to be covered by those hosting the event.
Are you interested in hosting an event, but you can't donate the out-of-pocket cost of the event on your own? Consider one of these options a) Find another family (or two) who will split the cost with you b) See if you can get a company to help sponsor the event c) Find a less expensive option for an event that still brings people together to build relationships.
Don’t think you have much to offer for an event? Think again! Read through the list of ideas below to get your creative juices flowing...

At the end of the evening, the committee will collect payment from the people that have signed up to attend the Great Gathering events. We’ll give you (the host) the sign-up sheet for your event, so you can coordinate the details of your Great Gathering.

Ideas for Great Gathering Events:
Family Fun
- Host a backyard bonfire. Supply all the s’more fixins and beverages and let families join in on the fun!
- Talk to your local rec center about renting a baseball field (or maybe they’d even donate field time) and host a game of baseball for families of LNFI.
- Are you good in the kitchen? Make your favorite dish and invite families of LNFI over to enjoy the feast!
- Do you have a great set of yard games? Host an afternoon of playing yard games with kids and adults!
Adults-Only Events
- Enjoy biking? Gather a group of moms at LNFI and take a bike ride around St. Paul. Finish the ride at your favorite breakfast hang out and enjoy some Bloody Marys and adult conversation!
- Talk to your LNFI neighbors about hosting a progressive dinner. Each family in the neighborhood offers a "course" (1st house would serve cocktails, 2nd house would serve appetizers, 3rd house would serve salad, etc.). Stroll your way through the different houses while enjoying the different courses being offered and the adult company!
- Enjoy drinking from the locals taps? Gather a group of other beer-loving adults and tour the local taprooms!
- Have a certain skill you could pass on to other adults (massage, photography, sewing, tax advice)? Offer a gathering where you teach them your trade!
Kids-Only Events:
- Plan an afternoon of board games or electronic games (Wii, Play Station, etc.).
- Have parents drop their kids off at the bowling alley, where you'll supervise and bowl a couple of games with them!
- Take a group of kids to see a movie at the cheap theater! You pay for the tickets and treats and give their parents a couple hours of freedom!
- Schedule an afternoon that includes a picnic lunch in your backyard and then a walk to your neighborhood playground! Maybe even take a detour on your walk to get some ice cream?!

If you'd rather complete a hosting form via paper, watch for flyers coming home in backpacks.
